ROLE OF THE REFERRING PHYSICIAN

The referring physician will be contacted by phone immediately following the initial evaluation and sent a complete written report by the Center faculty member. If additional tests are required, these may be done either by the Center physician or by the referring physician.

Throughout the patient’s evaluation and treatment at UCLA, the referring physician remains the primary physician and may request the collaboration of the Center faculty and staff to any degree desired. Most patients require frequent clinical and laboratory re-assessment; the referring physician can decide whether these follow-up activities should be performed at UCLA or at another facility. At UCLA, the patients are encouraged to maintain a close relationship with the Center’s nurse specialists available for phone calls and personal conferences during working hours. For any patient evaluated in the Center, the program faculty can always be reached for further consultation.
