PATIENT REFERRALS

Any patients with known or suspected ventricular dysfunction may be referred to the Ahmanson-UCLA Cardiomyopathy Center. Some common reasons for referral include:

  • Asymptomatic cardiac enlargement
  • New onset symptoms of heart failure
  • Consideration of complex revascularization in patients with coronary disease and reduced ejection fraction
  • Valvular disease and low ejection fraction
  • Arrhythmias in the setting of ventricular dysfunction
  • Well-compensated heart failure for risk assessment
  • Decompensated heart failure
    • potential candidates for heart transplantation
    • patients with obvious contraindications to transplantation in whom alternative therapy is sought

Patients with advanced heart failure that are unstable or unable to be discharged from the hospital may be transferred to UCLA Medical Center on an urgent basis at any time by calling (310) 825-6068.
